The Royal Oak Racquets Club is intertwined with the history of Tennis in Auckland over the last 100 + years. The Club has seen players of such calibre as Brian Fairlie, Peter Langsford, Julie Richardson, James Greenhalgh, Willie Laban, Brett Steven and Rubin & Oliver Statham initiate their successful Tennis careers on the courts here at “The Oak”. The Club is not limited to the elite tennis player and has in fact a very strong base of club players and we welcome and encourage members of all playing levels and abilities to our join our club as we realise they are the backbone of community based organisations such as ours.
The Royal Oak Racquets Club offers a number of Tennis options to their members:
Tennis Club Night/Day: Thursdays 6.30-8.30pm and Sundays 12-4pm. Both events are run by a fanstastic group of club members and this is a great way to meet people and become more involved in the Club. Players of all levels are welcome.
Interclub: For the more serious player, we have a number of tennis Interclub teams on offer ranging from Auckland’s elite Caro Bowl Competition to social and fun grades both in singles/doubles or doubles/mixed teams. Summer Interclub starts in mid September and winter in late April/May. To see what team would be best suit you speak to a tennis Committee member or our Resident tennis Professionals Angela & Gary Swinkels.
Juniors: During Term 1 and 4 the coaches will run a Junior Club night for social play and coaching on Friday nights and Saturday mornings for junior members.
Fridays 4-5pm Juniors aged 9-12 years.
Fridays 5-6pm Juniors 13-18 years.
Saturdays 9-10am Juniors 8 years and under.
Junior Interclub teams are also available and are played during Term 1 and Term 4 on a Sunday morning. If you are interested in playing contact the Tennis coaches.
There are a number of after school junior coaching squads available during all 4 school terms. Squads are run on an 8 week programme and we cater for players of all ages and abilities. This is an excellent but costs effective way of increasing your tennis skills but having fun at the same time.
Club Tournaments: There are number of events held throughout the year that members are encouraged to participate in. These include the annual club champs – singles, doubles and mixed. Along with our annual golf tournament, triples and Dingles tournaments. Keep your eye on the Tennis Notice board upstairs in the lounge or the monthly newsletter for more details.
