  • From the Club President

Two weeks ago the thought of being in this role was the furthest thing from my mind. Graham Small’s inability to step up from senior vice president due to business commitments left a sudden vacancy that the existing officers were unable to fill. The last five presidents are all close friends and we have worked together over the last ten years to get the club to, and maintain, our current debt free position. I guess there was a certain amount of peer pressure that resulted in my accepting the role. I am lucky that we have a strong executive and an excellent club manager, Brett Dennis, who I look forward to working with over the next 2 years. Despite our current economic environment and the difficulties being experienced by the majority of sports clubs the Oak is in very good shape by comparison. Our membership is strong our facilities are in good condition and we have several upgrade and maintenance projects in progress and in the planning stages of which we will keep you informed as they progress.
At our first executive meeting of the new financial year we have decided to organise a club ball to be held tentatively in early November. We want to have a specific committee to organise this event therefore any members who would like to get involved please contact myself, Brett or any of the executive.

Lets continue having fun at the Oak

  • Male Changing Rooms

The tiling of the showers in the gents changing room has now been completed. All that use the changing rooms will notice a big difference in the shower area. I would like to acknowledge the support of the New Zealand Community Trust for their grant so that this project could realised and also Rod Vickery for his plumbing skills.

  • Tennis Talk

    Congratulations to the 2009
    Royal Oak Golf Classic winners:

    Pule Ofe & Vase Rogers

The day was a great success, and despite some spirit dampening showers during the day, 80 players came out to support the Club in this Caro Bowl fundraising venture. We would like to thank them all plus friends and family who came down to the Clubrooms afterwards for the prize giving and after match function. We were able to raise just over $3000 which will go towards the Caro Bowl expenses for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. The Clubrooms were rocking on the Friday night and the bar turnover was one of the best we have seen in a long time.

The 2010 Golf Classic will again be played at The Grange and we are looking at dates in early February.

    GOOD LUCK TO…….
Anna Johnston who has just left for America to take camp America for the next 3 months.

Sarah Henderson, Bryce Hayr & Jamie Eccleton who are part a group of 11 players travelling with Angela & Gary Swinkels
to ITF tournaments in Noumea and Fiji
from June 20th-July 5th. These players will be looking to make some improvements in
their world junior rankings and we wish
them all the best! take players as reserves but places may become available later in the season.
