  • From the Club Manager....

    The tennis season is now upon us, with the first round of interclub started last weekend and the start of Caro Bowl on Friday 25th September. Junior tennis coaching starts up again in October on Friday nights and Saturday mornings.
    The squash season is still going strong with the club Championships held on 8th – 10 September. There were 2 divisions for both men’s and ladies. Well done to all that entered! The men’s club champ this year is David Friery and the ladies is Tracey Kimble.
    The second division men’s was won by Simon Bish and the ladies by Kamla Prakash.
    The quiz night was held on Thursday 17th and it was great to see so many teams enter. It was a great night enjoyed by all, the next quiz night will be in the new year.

  • Caro Bowl

    Caro Bowl
    The first Caro Bowl match of the season will see the Royal Oak men take on Blockhouse Bay from 6pm on Friday 25th. Come along and support the boys as well as enjoying the evening sun and some great company out on the deck at ‘The Oak’. Also, Friday night special happy hour 5.30 – 6.30 $4.00 a beer or wine.

  • Membership Renewals

    Membership Renewals
    Tennis memberships are due for renewal by the end of September. If you have not received your invoice please contact the club office. Can you please make sure that you inform the office of any changes to your circumstances or contact details.

  • Grants Received

    The club has received 1 new grant recently from the Producers Trust for funding towards the clubs junior coaching programme. The club would like to acknowledge the support of the Producers Trust. Without the help of the trusts like these the club would not be able to offer its junior members free coaching

  • Squash News

    Senior Spring interclub starts w/c 5th October, and the winter interclub was an extremely tight affair, with 3 of the teams missing out on the top spot by a single point. Well done to Men’s 3 and Women’s 4 who both won their divisions.
    The Royal Oak B Tournament starts on 30th September, entries are open until the 27th and the draw will be done on the 28th September. There will also be a Masters section in the tournament and all masters are welcome, please contact Brett in the office if you would like to enter.
    www.squashstats.co.nz, is a great web site that allows you to look up all your stats and follow the top movers in the game.

    Allan wins Kia Amateur Australian Open Qualifying Tournament
    Royal Oak’s Andrew Allan won the Men’s Open section of the Kia Amateur Australian Open New Zealand Qualifying event last Tuesday evening at Scarbro Tennis Centre in Auckland.
    Andrew played top seed Jackson Bodle from Northland in the men’s final.
    After getting off to a great start winning the first set, Andrew lost the second set and faced several match points before triumphing in the third set tie-break.
    Andrew and Brittany Teei, the women’s open champion, will now travel to Australia in January to represent New Zealand in the 2010 Kia Amateur Australian Open tournament to be played at Melbourne Park during the 2nd week of the 2010 Australian Open.
    We wish Andrew all the best and know he will make the Royal Oak club members proud on the courts at the 1st Grand Slam of the year!

    Drew proves too hot at the NZCT Aims Games

    Royal Oak’s Kelly Drew (Pukekohe Int School) coasted through to the Girls singles final only dropping one game en-route.

    In the final, last year’s runner-up Kelly, was too strong for Heaton Intermediate’s(Christchurch) Iljse Erasmus defeating her 6-1 6-2.
    Kelly was the number player in last year’s senior Womens 1 team that was promoted to 1st grade this year where Kelly will again fill the number 1 slot. She was also a part of the winning Junior Caro Bowl team last year and will look to gain a spot in the Caro Bowl Reserve team after Christmas.

  • Junior Tennis

    Free junior coaching is available to all junior members of the club.
    5 – 8 years – Saturday 9am- 10am
    Starts Saturday October 10th
    8 – 13 years – Friday 4 – 5pm
    Starts Friday October 9th
    13 – 18 years – Friday 5- 6pm
    Starts Friday October 9th
    All subscriptions for the 2009/10 season must be paid before attending these sessions

    Tiny Tots & Big Shots
    4-6 years & 7-8 years
    8 week course – Mon or Tues 3.45 – 4.30
    Racquets and balls provided – $65 per child
    Starts Monday 19th October or Tuesday 14th October
    This course is suited for beginners and runs for 8 weeks a term.
    Players are taught hand/eye coordination, ball and racquet skills as well as basic technique
    Aces Squads
    8 – 12 years & 13+ – 8 week course
    $90 per player – Racquets and balls provided
    Monday – 4.30 – 5.30pm – Starts October 19th
    Wednesday – 4.00 – 5.00 Starts October 14th
    Wednesday 5.00 – 6.00 Starts October 14th
    Thursday 4.00 – 5.00 Starts October 15th

    This course is suited for club juniors who are looking to have fun whilst improving their tennis skills. Players will be taught basic technique as well as how to score, play matches and improve their tennis skills with the emphasis on having fun.
    All coaches expect a high standard of effort, concentration and listening skills.
    Squads will be on rain or shine.
    If the weather is doubtful, the squad will be taken inside covering fitness / footwork skills / gym work and tactics.
